Learn songs on guitar. Play. It checks.
PlayCheck Guitar listens to your MIDI guitar while you play, and tells you what it heard — the notes you hit, the ones you missed, and where your hands were on the fretboard.

What it does
Everything below works without a guitar connected. The first three need one.
Live note feedback
Every note your guitar plays is matched against the score as you play it. Hits light up under the tab; misses are marked and stay on the line so you can see them afterwards.
Coaching modes
Play-Along grades you in real time. Wait-for-Note holds the score at each note until you play it, then moves on. Both work at any tempo, and either can slow down when you get stuck.
Fretboard position
On a guitar that reports where your fingers are, the app shows you the hand shape for each note — which frets, which strings, and which fingers.
Song library
Import Guitar Pro®, MusicXML™, Capella®, and AlphaTex files, or open a score from your computer or phone. Your library is stored on your device, not uploaded.
Proportional tablature
The tab is spaced so that horizontal distance equals time, which means what you see on screen looks like what you hear. Rests, bends, slides, and vibrato are drawn where they happen.
Practice tools
Loops with automatic repeat, a chromatic tuner, a metronome, chord identification, scales and shapes, and a report at the end of each session showing where you slipped.

The desktop build installs like any other app and needs no installer options. Both versions are the same build and update themselves.

Windows
Standard installer. It asks to add a firewall rule the first time it runs so it can find Bluetooth MIDI guitars on your network.

iOS and iPadOS
Connect a Bluetooth MIDI guitar and the same coaching runs on the device. Built for landscape.

Android
Bluetooth and USB MIDI both work. If you connect over USB, use a powered hub — phones cannot always supply enough current for a MIDI guitar.

What you need for live feedback
Live feedback needs a MIDI connection to your instrument. MIDI is the standard digital connection for music gear — either built into the guitar, or added to it with a pickup. The score, the tab, the library, the tuner, and the practice tools all work without one.
| Instrument | Connection | Fret holds | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AeroBand® Guitar | Bluetooth or USB-C | Yes | From $499 | Store |
| Jamstik® Standard | Bluetooth or USB-C | No | From $1,099 | Store |
| Jamstik® Core | USB-C only — no wireless | No | From $650 | Store |
| Fishman® TriplePlay pickup Fits an existing guitar |
Wireless or USB | No | From $399 | Store |
Fret holds matter for some track modes. Jamstik® and TriplePlay report which notes you played but not where your fingers are. The track modes that wait for a held shape need a guitar that reports both — at the moment that is the AeroBand® over Bluetooth. Prices are read from the vendors and move; check their pages for current figures.

Questions
Do I need a MIDI guitar to use it?
No. Scores, tab, playback, the library, the tuner, loops, and session reports all work on their own. A MIDI guitar is only required for live feedback — the note highlighting, grading, and coaching modes.
What counts as a MIDI guitar?
Any instrument that sends MIDI note messages over Bluetooth or USB, either because it has MIDI built in or because a MIDI pickup has been fitted. The table above lists what works today.
What happens when the free connection time runs out?
Your guitar disconnects at the next safe point and live feedback stops. Everything else keeps working. You can pick it back up with the annual subscription, and it works on every device you sign in to.
Is there a free trial?
No trial. The four hours of live connection time is the whole of the free preview — it is not a cut-down version, and it is not time-limited by a calendar.
Which platforms are supported?
macOS and Windows download directly from this page. iOS and Android are in progress; the store buttons above will go live when the listings are up.
Can I use one subscription on a laptop and a phone?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on each device and the subscription follows you. Purchases made on iOS or Google Play are tied to your store account there.
Can I cancel?
Any time, from the store subscription settings on mobile or from the billing account on desktop. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
My guitar is not on the list. Will it work?
Possibly — MIDI is a standard, and anything that sends ordinary note messages over USB will at least drive the note highlighting. Tell us what you have and we will tell you honestly what to expect: support@playcheckguitar.com.
